Law to play Hamlet on Broadway

Michael Grandage’s production of Hamlet, starring Jude Law, is set to transfer to Broadway this autumn.

Following a sell-out run at the Wydham’s Theatre, as part of the Donmar West End season, and a special performance at Elsinore castle in Denmark, Hamlet will travel to New York’s Broadhurst Theatre for 12 weeks only.

The show will open on October 6, with previews from September 12.

The production will mark Law’s return to Broadway for the first time since 1995, when he made his Tony Award-nominated debut in Jean Cocteau’s Indiscretions. Law will be joined on the New York stage by the rest of the London cast.

Previous Donmar Warehouse shows that have transferred to New York include the Tony Award-winning productions of Cabaret, Take Me Out, The Real Thing and Frost/Nixon.

The Donmar’s recent production of Mary Stuart is currently playing at the Broadhurst Theatre.

Donmar artistic director Grandage said: “Following our recent productions of Frost/Nixon and Mary Stuart, I am delighted we have been invited to bring another of our productions to Broadway.

“We feel very privileged to be part of such a vibrant theatre community and it is exciting to think that so many people will get to engage with our work and to witness Jude Law’s extraordinary performance.”
