Adrian Lester, star of the BBC drama series Hustle, is to take the role of Brick in an all-black production of Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, which will open at the Novello Theatre in December.

Lester will be joined by Sanaa Lathan as Maggie in the production, which also stars James Earl Jones as Big Daddy and Phylicia Rashad as Big Mama.

The production coming to the West End first opened on Broadway last year, starring Jones and Rashad, and will run at the Novello from Tuesday, December 1 until April 2010.

As on Broadway, the play will be directed by Debbie Allen, best known for playing Lydia Grant in the original film and television series of Fame.

It will be produced in London by its Broadway producers Stephen Byrd and Alia Jones.
