The royalties war between PRS for Music and YouTube owners, Google, has escalated with the launch of a new campaigning website.
Fairplayforcreators.com is the latest response by PRS for Music on behalf of 60,000 British musicians protesting against internet giant Google’s decision to block some music videos to UK-based users of its popular YouTube video-sharing site.
The dispute over levels of royalty payments due per viewing of videos has led to an impasse between the two organisations, with PRS’s latest move intended to allow “creators everywhere” the opportunity to “publicly demonstrate their concern over the way their work is treated by online businesses”.
In its most recent response to the situation, Google insisted that proposed new royalty rates were “simply prohibitive”.
