Cat Stevens musical Moonshadow has cancelled its world premiere at Northampton’s Derngate Theatre because they have been unable to confirm a future West End home for the show.
The production had been due to open in July, but producers have now said that they plan to take the musical, which features the songs of Cat Stevens, now known as Yusuf Islam, directly into the West End when a theatre becomes available.
A statement issued by the producers said: “The Producers of Moonshadow have decided it would be unwise to go ahead with the engagement of the production at Royal & Derngate, Northampton in July without a West End home for the production confirmed and have therefore withdrawn from the engagement.
“A West End venue is still hoped to be secured for an autumn 2009 opening at which point the production will open directly into London. The creative and design process will continue so that the production is ready to be mounted as soon as a West End theatre becomes available.”
