Monsters, a Swedish play based on the real-life killing of the young child James Bulger, is to receive its UK premiere at the Arcola Theatre this May.
The show is based on the facts of the murder of the two-year old Bulger by two ten-year old boys, Jon Venables and Robert Thompson, in February of 1993.
It will see “four actors deconstruct what happened that February in a poignant theatrical experience, swapping and sharing roles to create a different performance every night.”
Written by Niklas Radstrom and in a translation by Gabriella Berggren, the production will be directed by Christopher Haydon.
Arcola artistic director Mehmet Ergen said: “Monsters is one of three challenging plays this season, exemplifying theatre’s vital role in creating a safe place to explore subjects of great sensitivity.”
The play is produced by Strawberry Vale and the Arcola Theatre. It will run from May 6 to 30.
