The Society for Theatre Research has announced the short list for the 2008 Theatre Book Prize.
The nominees for the award are The Golden Generation: New Light on Post-war British Theatre, edited by Dominic Shellard, Stage Presence: The Actor as Mesmerist by Jane Goodall, A Strange Eventful History: The Dramatic Lives of Ellen Terry, Henry Irving and their Remarkable Families by Michael Holroyd, Theatre and Globalisation: Irish Drama in the Celtic Tiger Era by Patrick Lonergan, Theatre of the Troubles by Bill McDonnell and Verbatim: Techniques in Contemporary Theatre edited by Will Hammond and Dan Steward.
This year’s judges were professor Katherine Newey, director of postgraduate studies in the department of theatre at the University of Birmingham, choreographer and director Omar Okai and Ian Shuttleworth, lead theatre critic of the Financial Times and editor of Theatre Record. The panel is chaired by Howard Loxton for the STR.
The winner be announced on Tuesday, April 7 at a reception in the Grand Saloon at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London.
