Published Monday 2 February 2009 at 11:45 by Matthew Hemley

Green Wing actor Mark Heap is to play an alien in a new play to be broadcast as part of the BBC's forthcoming sci-fi season.

The play, called Homesick, has been written by Anita Sullivan, and also stars Maxine Peake, Paul Ritter and Susan Jameson.

Sullivan will direct the production, which is being made by independent company Sweet Talk.

As revealed by The Stage, the BBC's sci-fi season is a cross-station initiative involving BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 7 that will feature a number of new plays based around the science fiction genre.

Derek Jacobi, Catherine McCormack, Jason Isaacs and Alex Jennings are all lined up to star in productions that will be aired as part of the season, which will be broadcast in March.
