West End show La Cage aux Folles, which was this week named best musical at the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards, is extending its run at the Playhouse Theatre until September 26.
The Jerry Herman show originally opened at the Menier Chocolate Factory in 2007. It transferred to the West End last October, with Douglas Hodge in the lead role of Albin. He was replaced by Graham Norton earlier this month, and the run was initially extended to April 25.
Tickets for the second extension will be released on February 2, and casting details will be announced shortly.
La Cage aux Folles, which tells the story of a gay couple in a Saint Tropez Nightclub, premiered in 1983 at the Palace Theatre on Broadway. It ran for 1,761 performances and won six Tony Awards, including best musical, best score and best book of a musical.
