Actor Graham Cole, best known to TV viewers for his long-running role as PC Tony Stamp in The Bill, has been elected the new King Rat of the Grand Order of Water Rats, the showbusiness charity organisation.
The Grand Order of Water Rats was founded in 1889 by a group of music hall performers and since then has raised thousands of pounds for charitable causes. Previous King Rats have included Dan Leno, Will Hay, Roy Hudd and Wyn Calvin.
London-born Cole had a long career in theatre before joining The Bill. He has appeared in more than 1,000 episodes of the series. In the eighties, he also appeared in several roles in Doctor Who.
