Blackpool is to host a ten-day festival celebrating circus, magic and variety performance.
Showzam will run from February 13 to 22, and will include a flower-themed carnival ball at the Tower Ballroom, street theatre and an exhibition featuring costumes, photographs and posters telling the history of circus.
The National Theatre of Variety and Paul Stone Productions will premiere Variety Live - a production featuring an international line-up of variety artists - from February 19 to 21 at the Grand Theatre. It is hoped that the show will later transfer to the London Palladium and a major hotel and casino in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Showzam will also see one of the last surviving female sword-swallowers Miss Behave, also known as Amy Saunders, take to the stage with her show Variety Nighty. Saunders was most recently seen in La Clique at the London Hippodrome, following a sell-out season at Camden’s Roundhouse.
