Theatre owner and producer Cameron Mackintosh has topped this year’s Stage 100 - the newspaper’s guide to the most influential people working in UK theatre today.
Mackintosh, who has now been placed first five times since the list was launched in 1997, beat long-term collaborator Andrew Lloyd Webber, who came second. Lloyd Webber has been placed first more than any other figure in the history of The Stage 100, coming top six times.
Mackintosh is currently working on a major new revival of Oliver!, which will open at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in January.
Meanwhile, Donmar Warehouse artistic director Michael Grandage was this year’s highest mover, coming equal third with National Theatre artistic director Nicholas Hytner. Grandage was placed 13th in last year’s list.
New entrants to this year’s top 20 include actor David Tennant and Manchester International Festival director Alex Poots. For the full Stage 100, as well as interviews with leading figures from the list, including Mamma Mia! producer Judy Craymer, see this week’s print edition of The Stage, out now.
