The National Theatre’s hit show War Horse is set to transfer to the West End’s New London Theatre on March 28, following its second sell-out run at the Southbank venue.
The production is based on Michael Morpurgo’s 1982 children’s book, which is set during the outbreak of the First World War, and tells the story of a young boy called Albert and his treacherous journey to find his beloved horse Joey, who has been sold to the cavalry and shipped to France.
The story has been adapted for the stage by Nick Stafford and is directed by Marianne Elliot and Tom Morris.
War Horse received its world premiere in 2007 and went on to win the Evening Standard, Critics’ Circle and Olivier awards for the set design, created by Rae Smith and Handspring Puppet Company. Toby Sedgwick received an Oliver Award for his choreography.
The show returned to the NT in September, where it will run until March 18, before shifting to the West End.
Currently at the New London Theatre is Holocaust musical Imagine This, which posted closing notices a month after its premiere. It will end its run later this week.
