Billy Elliot and The Lion King stars to play young Michael Jackson

Published Thursday 4 December 2008 at 13:10 by Alistair Smith

Layton Williams, the first black performer to play Billy Elliot on stage, has been unveiled as one of three 13-year-old boys who will take on the role of the young Michael Jackson in forthcoming West End show Thriller Live.

Williams’ run in Billy Elliot the Musical ended on November 30. He will be joined in Thriller Live by Sterling Williams, who has previously played Simba in The Lion King in the West End and Kieron Alleyne - a newcomer from Leicester who was discovered through open auditions for the show last month.

Having completed three UK tours and been performed in Germany, Holland and across Scandinavia, Thriller will begin previews at the Lyric Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue on January 2. Press night is January 21 and the show is booking until April 12.
