West End jukebox musical Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story is set to end its run at the Duchess Theatre on February 7, following the 50th anniversary of the death of the rock’n’roll singer.
The show - a tribute to the performer Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959 - opened at the theatre on August 2007, following a five-year absence. It originally premiered at the Victoria Palace theatre in October 1989, before transferring to the Strand, now known as the Novello. A regional tour, which launched in September, will continue until June next year.
Co-writer and producer Alan Janes said: “We brought the touring production of Buddy to the West End and we’ve had a great year and a half there. Now we are delighted to be going back out on the road once again to play to all our fans across the UK and Ireland.”
Buddy has been seen by more than 20 million people in over 16,000 performances worldwide.
