Published Friday 14 November 2008 at 11:30 by Matthew Hemley

BBC Radio 2 is to celebrate the music of Disney with a Christmas concert featuring Maria Friedman and Zorro’s Matt Rawle.

The pair will be joined by Ashley Brown, who was Broadway’s original Mary Poppins and Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and Heather Headley, who was in Broadway’s original production of Aida.

BBC Radio 2 Celebrates the Music of Disney will be recorded live at the Lyceum Theatre on Monday December 8 and broadcast on Radio 2 on Boxing Day.

Featuring Disney music from the past 65 years, the concert will also include the West End company of The Lion King performing concert versions of Circle of Life and One by One. Other performers include Tituss Burgess, who was in the original Broadway cast of The Little Mermaid, and Adam Pascal, who was in Aida.

Meanwhile, the West End cast of The Lion King will perform at this year’s Royal Variety Performance on Thursday December 11.
