West End Thriller show starts hunt for ‘young Michael Jackson’
Producers of Michael Jackson musical Thriller - Live, which is to open in the West End next year, have launched a search to find a young unknown singer to play the pop star as a child.
Open auditions will be held at the Lyric Theatre - where the show will be staged - on Sunday, November 23, and its producers are looking for a young black, African American or dual heritage boy aged 11 to 15 who has an “excellent unbroken pop/rock voice with a high range”.
Auditionees will be expected to perform either Ben, I Want You Back or I’ll Be There and will play Jackson in his Jackson 5 days.
Thriller - Live comes to the West End after three UK tours and performances in Germany, Holland and Scandinavia.
It begins previews on Friday, January 2, with press night on Wednesday, January 21.
The show, billed as a celebration of Jackson’s music, is booking for a limited season to Sunday, March 29 and will have two Sunday performances a week, one at 3pm and another at 7pm.
Thriller - Live features choreography from Gary Lloyd and was originally conceived and created by Adrian Grant, a long-time associate of Jackson.
