The Royal Shakespeare Company’s work with drama students through its Text and Voice department, was recognised last week with an award for Services to Drama Training, at the 40th Anniversary dinner of the Conference of Drama Schools.
Lyn Darnley, head of Text and Voice, said that she and her team were “delighted and proud” at the recognition. Last year they set up a series of classic text workshops, allowing two students from each of the 22 leading drama schools that make up the CDS, to work with RSC practitioners on text and poetry, meet RSC staff including the casting department, directors and actors, and have a chance to work on stage at the Courtyard Theatre.
Anneika Rose who participated in the first workshop, is now performing as Juliet in the current RSC touring production of Romeo and Juliet.
Darnley added: “We hope that we can continue this programme of workshops which can enrich the skills of our future actors.”
