Andrew Lloyd Webber is to compose the United Kingdom entry for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest 2009 and has launched a search to find a singer or group to perform it.
Both amateur and professional performers are being invited to submit audition tapes to the BBC’s website, with these being whittled down to a shortlist of six by Lloyd Webber and a team of professionals.
A series of live shows called Your Country Needs You on BBC1, hosted by Graham Norton, will then see viewers decide on who will perform Lloyd Webber’s song, which the BBC said would have lyrics by a “top lyricist”.
“In my life I have never shied away from the impossible and this looks like the biggest mission impossible of all time,” Lloyd Webber said.
