Welsh and Cavanagh pen darts comedy for ITV4

Trainspotting writer Irvine Welsh is to direct a one-off comedy drama for ITV4.

Called Good Arrows, the show has been penned by Welsh and Dean Cavanagh and is being made through the pair’s production company, Dust Films.

Welsh and Cavanagh previously collaborated together on Channel 4’s drama Wedding Belles.

Good Arrows, which is ITV4’s first comedy commission, will star Shameless’ Jonathan Owen, Ella Smith - currently appearing in Fat Pig in the West End - and Brian Hibbard.

Welsh said: “Good Arrows is set in south Wales, in the world of professional darts. It is a satire on the most vacuous and self-defeating foible of our times - the cult of minor celebrity. We have a tight, funny and edgy script and have been fortunate to recruit brilliant performers and a highly talented crew, who will execute it with aplomb.”

ITV4 controller Dave Fewings added that the show would have “great appeal for the channel’s male audience”.Ê

“Personally, I am also delighted that writers with the pedigree of Irvine and Dean see ITV4 as the perfect home for the show,” he said.
