Three plays running at Edinburgh new writing venue the Traverse Theatre are among five shows to pick up prizes in the first round of The Scotsman’s Fringe First Awards.
Enda Walsh’s The New Electric Ballroom presented by Druid Theatre company, Sherman Cymru’s verbatim drama Deep Cut, and Architecting by New York-based ensemble The Team and the National Theatre of Scotland, have been given the accolade at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Also receiving the award are two one-man shows - Stefan Golaszewski Speaks About a Girl He Once Loved, which is running at the Pleasance, and the Tailor of Inverness, written and performed by Matthew Zajac at the Assembly @ George Street.
The Fringe First Awards, which celebrate high quality new drama and were set up in 1973, are announced weekly during the festival. There is no fixed number of prizes given, and the only requirement is that the work must have had less than six performances prior to the festival.
The next round of winners will be announced on August 15.
