The Arches, one of Europe’s leading multi-arts venues, has appointed Jackie Wylie as its new artistic director with immediate effect.

Wylie, who currently holds the post of arts programmer, joined the Glasgow venue in 2004. Since then she has overseen significant progress in the Arches’ key festivals, and helped increase the venue’s international content.

Commenting on Wylie’s appointment, Lesley Thomson, chair of the Arches, said: “We feel she has the ambition and vision to take the venue forward to even greater success locally, nationally and internationally.”

Jim Tough, acting chief executive of the Scottish Arts Council, added: “Jackie has the energy and flair to keep the Arches pushing forward. She’s shown a keen eye for the up and coming and is sure to build on the achievements of the Arches team.”
