As the new male lead, Harman follows in the footsteps of Max Beesley, who was in the show’s first three series and played the hotel’s general manager, Charlie Edwards.

Beesley announced he was leaving after series three to focus on other projects.

Harman will play wealthy businessman Sam Franklin who checks into the hotel, only to discover his ex-wife Juliet has been appointed its new general manager.

The pair discover Hotel Babylon is about to be sold, leading Franklin to step in and buy it.

Harman, who played Dennis Rickman in EastEnders, will be joined by Anna Wilson-Jones as Juliet.

Wilson-Jones was last seen in ITV’s The Time of Your Life and Afterlife.

Hotel Babylon is made by Carnival Films, the independent company behind ITV’s The Whistleblowers and the forthcoming Harley Street.

Carnival managing director Gareth Neame confirmed both actors’ involvement in the show, which is due to start filming next week.

The show is based on the book of the same name by Imogen Edwards-Jones.
