Hairspray recoups its entire £3.5m West End outlay

West End musical Hairspray has become the quickest show ever to recoup at the Shaftesbury Theatre, earning back its entire £3.5 million capitalisation in 29 weeks.

The show, which won the best Musical Award at this year’s Oliviers, is produced by Stage Entertainment.

Having opened on October 30, 2007, the production is currently booking until April 4, 2009. It stars Leanne Jones and Michael Ball and is directed by Jack O’Brien. It has a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman.
