Producers of Dickens Unplugged have decided to close the show less than a month after its West End transfer due to poor ticket sales.

The production, written and directed by Reduced Shakespeare Company founding member Adam Long, will end its run at the Comedy Theatre on June 29.

A spokesman for the show said: “The producers wish to thank the talented cast, creative team and company for all their hard work and dedication to this production. Despite fantastic performances and enthusiastic audiences, the ticket sales have not been sufficient and the producers have had to make the difficult decision to close the show.”

Dickens Unplugged made its London debut on May 23. Commissioned in 2006 for the 2007 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the show charts a selection of Charles Dickens’ classic works and highlights the 19th century author’s own colourful life.

It is produced in the West End by Mark Goucher and Wimpole Theatre, in association with the Araca Group New York.
