Turner had taken over as interim chief executive earlier this year after Peter Tyndall left ACW in April to become Public Services Ombudsman for Wales.

Capaldi is currently chief executive of Arts Council England, South West, where he has worked since 1988, holding his current position from 2001.

He said: “I couldn’t be more delighted to be joining ACW at this exciting time. The council has ambitious plans to champion the quality of creative activity in Wales, and to help bring the nest of the arts within reach of as many people as possible. It’s an ambition I wholeheartedly support and I’m looking forward to working with ACW and its staff to achieve these goals.”
