Daniel Mays replaces Rory Kinnear in Channel 4’s Plus One

Daniel Mays, who most recently appeared as Aiden in the Royal Court’s production of Scarborough, is to replace Rory Kinnear in the Channel 4 comedy Plus One.

As revealed by The Stage in April, Kinnear was forced to pull out of a full series of the comedy, piloted last year as part of Channel 4’s Comedy Showcase, because of commitments at the National Theatre, where he is starring in The Revenger’s Tragedy.

Mays, whose TV credits include BBC3’s Funland and White Girl on BBC2, will now take on the role of Rob Black in the comedy.

Miranda Raison, who was in the original pilot, returns as Black’s girlfriend, who leaves him to marry Duncan James from boy band Blue, who will also star.

The five 30 minute episodes are reported to be lined up for a Friday night slot in September. The series is being made by Life on Mars producer Kudos and has been written by Tim Allsop and Stewart Williams, with Sarah O’Gorman directing.
