Presenting the honours at the Annual Representative Conference, Equity president Harry Landis described her as “someone who spends all her time and energy working for other people”.

Meanwhile, Barnes, who is currently secretary of the North and East General Branch, has been a member of Equity for almost 40 years.

Landis said: “Whenever guidance and leadership has been needed, he stuck his neck out and provided it.”
