David Farr is to stand down as artistic director of the Lyric Hammersmith next year to become associate director of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Farr has been at the Lyric since June 2005. Prior to that he headed up the artistic work at Bristol Old Vic and London’s Gate Theatre.

Meanwhile, Rupert Goold and Roxana Silbert have also been appointed as associate directors of the RSC, while Anthony Neilson will join as literary associate and Kathryn Hunter will become artistic associate.

RSC artistic director Michael Boyd said: “The RSC is very fortunate that some of the most inspirational theatre-makers of their generation want to make the RSC their artistic home over the coming years and help to redefine ensemble theatre-making in this country.”
