Sheridan and George reunite for sixties Troubles drama

Writer-directors Jim Sheridan and Terry George are to reunite to create a television drama series about the events that led up to the outbreak of the Troubles in Northern Ireland in the late sixties.

Sheridan made the announcement at the launch in Dublin of a new free-to-air digital television channel that will showcase the best of Irish and world cinema. He said he wanted to make a series that would “put a coffin nail in the way you think about what the north [of Ireland] became - if we could get six inch nails and hammer them into a coffin so that particular vampire never came out again, we would be doing a service.”

Sheridan has previously worked with George on critically-acclaimed Daniel Day-Lewis vehicles The Name Of The Father and The Boxer, and on hunger strike drama Some Mother’s Son. Between them they have received eight Academy Award nominations.
