The three nominees for the Renee Stepham Award for the Presentation of Touring Theatre are Truro-based company Hall for Cornwall, Headlong Theatre and Lyric Hammersmith.

Stepham, who died last year, set up her own theatrical agency at the end of the Second World War and is thought to be one of the most influential bookers of her time.

According to TMA president Derek Nicholls, naming the award in her honour will “ensure that her work will continue to be recognised for many years to come”.

Other nominees include Liverpool’s Empire Theatre, Oldham Coliseum, Nottingham Playhouse and Wales Millennium Centre for the Most Welcoming Theatre category.

Meanwhile, chiefs of Salisbury Playhouse, Royal Court and Northern Stage will compete for Manager of the Year.

The TMA Management Awards were launched four years ago after the overall awards were restructured to allow the backstage categories to be presented at a separate ceremony to the performance prizes.

Winners of the awards, along with those receiving the Arts Council England Eclipse Award and Achievement in Marketing prize, will be announced on May 15 as part of the TMA Annual Lunch. The full list of nominees is as follows:

Most Welcoming Theatre: Empire Theatre, Liverpool; Oldham Coliseum; Nottingham Playhouse; Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.

Manager of the Year: Alan Corkhill - theatre manager, Salisbury Playhouse; Bobbie Stokes - theatre manager, Royal Court; Erica Whyman - chief executive, Northern Stage.

The Renee Stepham Award for the Presentation of Touring Theatre: Hall for Cornwall, Headlong Theatre, Lyric Hammersmith.

Eclipse Award: Jan Ryan, UK Arts International; the Young Vic, for the presentation of The Magic Flute and A Christmas Carol.
