The show will open at the Playhouse Theatre on June 9, with previews from May 23. Based on the 1972 Perry Henzell film, it tells the story of a country boy who heads to Kingston, Jamaica, to make it as a reggae star. It features hit songs by musician Jimmy Cliff, including You Can Get it if you Really Want, Many Rivers to Cross and The Harder They Come.
The musical stars Rolan Bell as Ivan, as well as Jacqui Dubois, Derek Ellroy and Victor Romero Evans. It is written by Perry Henzell, and directed by Dawn Reid and Theatre Royal Stratford East artistic director Kerry Michael.
