Kombat Opera Presents, the BBC2 series devised by Jerry Springer - the Opera co creator Richard Thomas, has picked up two gongs at this year’s Rose d’Or television awards.
The show, which featured opera parodies of programmes such as Panorama and Question Time, won in the comedy category and also picked up the award for best programme of 2008.
Judges described the series, made by Avalon Television, as an “inspired idea that opens the door to a whole new genre - culture-clash TV”.
UK programmes walked away with the most awards at the ceremony held in Switzerland, with Channel 4’s Strictly Bolshoi, which followed choreographer Christopher Wheeldon as he became the first British person to create a new work for the Bolshoi Ballet, winning the award for best arts documentary.
Skins won in the drama category, while The IT Crowd, made by Talkback Thames, scooped the gong for best sitcom.
Peter Serafinowicz, who created BBC1’s The Peter Serafinowicz Show, was crowned best entertainer.
