Neil LaBute’s new play Fat Pig will open according to schedule later this month, despite the fact leading man Kris Marshall is receiving hospital treatment for head injuries after being hit by a car.

A spokeswoman for the production, set to preview from May 16 at the Trafalgar Studios, said Marshall was due to return to rehearsals on Wednesday this week, and that the play will open as planned.

Marshall, best known for his role as Nick in BBC1 sitcom My Family, was hit by a car during a night out in Bristol on Friday.

He is being treated at the city’s Royal Infirmary.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said: “There was a collision between a car and pedestrian shortly before 1am on Sunday. A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with head injuries not considered to be life-threatening.”

He added: “Police spoke to the driver of the car involved, which was a VW Polo. He stopped immediately after the collision and we are looking into how it happened. He was not a drink driver.”
