Today’s planned inspection of the Derby Hippodrome by an independent expert has been postponed.
The structural engineer had been due on site to investigate whether the historic theatre was a threat to public and safety and needed to be demolished, as is claimed by the owner of the Grade II-listed building.
The expert had been appointed after Derby City Council took the owner to the High Court in a bid to obtain an injunction preventing him from demolishing the venue. While the court did not grant an injunction, it recommended that an independent expert be appointed to decide whether the Hippodrome was a threat to public safety.
According to a statement issued by the council, it is currently unaware as to when the expert might now be coming to the site. The engineer had been due to complete his report by April 21. Whether this latest development might delay that is yet to be confirmed.
