West End musical Wicked has confirmed its new principal cast, including a change in the lead role of Elphaba from June.

The already-announced Alexia Khadime is to take over as Elphaba, replacing Kerry Ellis who will leave the cast on June 7 to appear in the Broadway version of the show before returning in December to the London production. Meanwhile, Harriet Thorpe will play Madame Morrible from April 14 and Desmond Barrit will take on the role of The Wizard from June 9, when Khadime will also start. Diane Pilkington continues as Glinda, as does Oliver Tompsett as Fiyero.

The production, which is running at the Victoria Apollo Theatre, is soon to celebrate its 650th performance and has taken more than £45 million at the box office since it premiered in September 2006.
