BBC director of audio and music, Jenny Abramsky, is to leave the Corporation after 39 years.
In her current role, Abramsky oversees all the BBC’s radio services and is also responsible for the three BBC orchestras in England, the BBC Proms and classical music and performance television.
She is leaving the Corporation to take up a post as chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
In an email to staff today, BBC director general Mark Thompson said: “Her contribution to the BBC has been immense and she will leave a precious and lasting legacy. Everything she has done has been characterised by her legendary passion for the medium of radio and the BBC as a public service broadcaster, as well as her devotion to BBC audiences. She leaves BBC Radio in remarkable health with record audience figures and an exciting digital future already in place.”
