Mark Gatiss is to star in a murder mystery drama for BBC1 written by Annie Griffin, the award-winning scribe of Channel 4’s The Book Group.
The drama, called Purves and Pekkala, is Griffin’s first for the Corporation and will see Gatiss play an architect who becomes involved in a murder investigation when one of his arch enemies falls from a building.
Omid Djalili, Max Bremer and Paul Higgins also star in the 75-minute programme, which BBC Scotland head of drama Anna Mensah said would feature some of the most “original and entertaining characters you could ever hope to meet on TV”.
She added: “As with all of Annie’s work, Purves & Pekkala is very authored and distinctive drama.”
The show is being made by Griffin’s film and television production company, Pirate Productions. It is being produced through BBC Scotland for BBC1 and is commissioned by controller of fiction Jane Tranter.
