The trumpet player, 86, has presented the show since 1968 and will host his final one on March 17. But he will continue to present BBC Radio 4’s I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue.
Humphrey said: “I think it’s time to clear a space for some of my other ambitions. I’ve had a great relationship with Radio 2 and my listeners, and will perhaps pop in to make further contribution as the occasions arise.”
BBC Radio 2 controller Lesley Douglas said the world of music broadcasting would be the poorer without his show.
“We wish him continued success in his other pursuits for many years to come and I hope this is not the last time he will be heard on Radio 2,” she added.
