West End star Kerry Ellis is to recreate her role as Elphaba in the musical Wicked on Broadway.

Ellis, who was the first British actress to play the role, will give her final performance in the show at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, London, on June 7 before beginning a run at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway on June 17.

She will return to the London production later this year.

Wicked, which tells the untold story of the witches of Oz, has been seen by more than a million people since opening in London in September 2006, taking more than £40 million at the box office to date.

Tickets are currently on sale until April 2009.
