Veteran actor Barry Morse, best known on television for role as police chief Philip Gerard in The Fugitive, has died aged 89.

Morse trained at RADA and appeared on the London stage in the forties, making his film debut as a stooge to Will Hay in the comedy The Goose Steps Out (1942).

He divided his time between Canada and the UK and appeared in several plays on Broadway, including Hadrian V11 (1969).
