Judges of The Performing Right Society Foundation’s New Music Award 2008 have announced the short list for this year’s competition to create a new musical work and win funding of £50,000.
Proposals from the six chosen entries include a choir comprised of bats, a composition for a carousel organ, a year-long touring performance, a new notation for beatboxing, an instrument that models the brain and a new operetta for African music.
The chosen project is announced on April 9 and the winner will have until September 2009 to create and present their work.
Their judging panel includes representatives from the BBC, London venue the Roundhouse, EMI and established musicians such as Nitin Sawhney.
