Churchill Theatre, Bromley, has received a £5,000 grant from Arts Council England to help increase access to the venue for people with disabilities.
The grant will primarily fund the replacement of the theatre’s infra-red hearing system but will also be spent on a loop system in the box office for hard-of-hearing people when they are buying tickets, a platform lift to the circle bar, better accessibility to the dressing rooms and a wider programme of assisted performances.
Chief executive of the venue Derek Nicholls said: “The Churchill Theatre already provides high quality access provision for its patrons with disabilities, and we are delighted that the arts council has given us this grant to move even further forward with this important project. We have introduced a range of assisted performances, renewing our commitment to give all our patrons an enjoyable and comfortable experience with every visit.”
The Churchill is also introducing Stagetext to deliver captioned performances. The first will be for a new production of Cole Porter’s High Society, from September 9 to 18.
