Burnham new culture secretary as Purnell moves to Work and Pensions

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Andy Burnham has been announced as the new Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.

The news come just hours after the James Purnell’s appointment as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, following the resignation of Peter Hain.

Purnell was previously pensions minister before taking over from Tessa Jowell in the culture post last July.
