Notes for The Stage shortlist announced

Published Tuesday 27 November 2007 at 15:25 by Alistair Smith

Notes for The Stage, the new joint initiative between the Notes from New York series and The Stage to find an upcoming British musical theatre composer for the West End, has revealed its shortlist of five finalists.

Judges musical director David Randall, theatre critic Mark Shenton, composer Grant Olding and leading lady Anna-Jane Casey will now choose a winner from the remaining entries - Christmas in New York City by Lemon Otter & Sam Fraser, Children by Michael Bruce, Christmas Without You by Philippa Cleary, Too Many Lights by Joseph Finlay and Perfect by Jonathan Yesten-Thomas.

The successful entrant will have their song performed at the Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue in a one-night West End gala, Christmas in New York, on December 9.

Olding commented: “It’s been fantastic to see the number of entries that have been submitted but even more so to see the number of songs written by young people and the promise in so much of the work. The shortlisted entries are all very different and so choosing the winner is going to involve a great deal of debate.”

The winner will be announced in next week’s issue of The Stage.
