Actor Tom Hardy is writing a sitcom called Candy Chops, which is being made in association with Rob Brydon’s production company, Jones the Film.

Hardy, who recently appeared in the National Theatre’s production of The Man of Mode and is to star as Bill Sikes in the BBC’s forthcoming adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, told The Stage the sitcom was similar in style to Curb Your Enthusiasm.

He said it had been co-written with Kelly Marcel, who wrote the book and lyrics to the Off-Broadway show Debbie Does Dallas - The Musical, and that Brydon’s company had optioned it.

A broadcaster is not currently lined up to broadcast the series.

Hardy also said he was working with Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Labyrinth Theatre Company in New York on a one-man show that is hoping will be performed in London.

The play, which is called Red Rose, has been written especially for Hardy by Bret C Leonard and will be directed by Hoffman.
