Patrick Stewart, Robert Lindsay and Billie Piper are among the nominees for the 2007 Evening Standard Theatre Awards, in a year which sees the National Theatre pick up six nominations.
Stewart will seek to repeat his Theatrical Management Association Award success for his performance in Macbeth, which is also up for Best Director and Best Design. Robert Lindsay is recognised for his performance in The Entertainer at the Old Vic, while Billie Piper is nominated for her turn in Treats.
The National picks up nominations for The Reporter, Rafta Rafta, War Horse, Saint Joan and The Emperor Jones.
The Best Musical Award has been renamed to pay tribute Ned Sherrin, the broadcaster, writer, director and former presenter of the Evening Standard Awards, who died last month. Shortlisted are the London revival of Hairspray, Parade and Fiddler on the Roof.
The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony at The Savoy on Tuesday, November 27, presented by Richard Wilson.
