SOLT offers West End workers 5% pay rise

Published Wednesday 10 October 2007 at 17:10 by Alistair Smith

Backstage staff in the West End have been offered a 5% pay increase by London theatre managers.

The Society of London Theatre has made the offer to Bectu and the union has passed on the deal to members in a ballot. According to the union, it is neither recommending an acceptance or rejection of the offer, but asking members to “judge it on its merits”. However, it also adds that “the offer is higher than the current rate of inflation and compares favourably with other settlements in the theatre industry”.

The deal would also include a 1.5% increase in employers’ matched pension contributions. The deadline for the ballot is October 26.
