Kingsley will transform new Shakespeare novel to the screen

Ben Kingsley has secured the stage and screen rights to Christopher Rush’s forthcoming historical novel Will, which deals with the deathbed meeting between William Shakespeare and his lawyer.

Kingsley is to star as Shakespeare in the film version of the book, which he will also co-produce. It will mark the first production for his company SBK Pictures.

“I created SBK Pictures with the simplest of mandates - to work with people I admire, to make life-affirming films in a style appropriate to the story, and to enthral the audience,” said Kingsley. “Christopher wrote the most amazing, literate and entertaining novel I’ve read in years, and I’m honoured to be part of bringing Will to life”.

The book is scheduled to be released worldwide on September 20.
