The programme, fronted by Strictly Come Dancing judges Arlene Phillips and Bruno Tonioli, averaged 4.8 million viewers, compared with ITV1’s new show, Sing it Back, which only managed 1.9 million.

DanceX is a seven-part series that aims to form a new dance troupe along the lines of Hot Gossip, the act that Phillips created and choreographed in the seventies.

The show fills the Saturday night entertainment slot that has previously been filled with Any Dream Will Do and Strictly Come Dancing.
