Lloyd teams up with Warner to launch new internet comedy channel

Published Wednesday 27 June 2007 at 16:00 by Matthew Hemley

Former Spitting Image and Blackadder producer John Lloyd has teamed up with the video content division of Warner Music International to launch an internet TV channel called Comedybox.

Working with Warner Music Entertainment, Lloyd, who is currently the producer of the BBC quiz QI, will commission original content from established names as well as newcomers.

The site will combine weekly shows with one-off sketches and animation.

Among the highlights are QI News, a weekly news show from the makers of the BBC gameshow, and 42, a weekly spoof of the Fox series 24.

Warner said the channel would become the “first-choice destination for comedy online” and said it would act as a “showcase for developing talent”.

Warner Music International chairman and chief executive Patrick Vien said: “The site will appeal to a broad audience, ranging from comedy aficionados browsing the full spectrum of material, through to those who want to dip in for a quick humour fix as well as budding performers showcasing their talent.”

Lloyd added: “This is a thrilling time for British comedy. It has often been difficult to take risks on mainstream television, but Comedybox will allow comedians, producers and young talent to try anything they want, however risky.”
